Projects
This year, we have the following Projects to carry out:- Centennial Projects As part of the Rotary centennial celebrations, the Rotary Club of Kampala has a Plan to develop 10 Acres of land at Mukono which is located 19 km from Kampala along the Jinja road. The project is special because the land which was donated by a Rotarian member of the club, will be used to show case Rotary as the Worlds' Humanitarian Service Organisation for 100 years. The Centennial project will involve the construction of a Community hall and health centre. The project will also serve as a Vocational centre. A recreational park to provide the community with a venue for outdoor relaxation. Ten species of 100 trees each will be planted by 100 youth symbolising 100 years of Rotary. Nakulabye Polio Immunising Clinic As we approach the target date for the total eradication of polio from the face of the globe in 2005, the Club has intensified the immunising of children at the Immunisation centre, Nakulabye. The Centre is run on Tuesdays and an average of 160 children are immunised every month. The Club makes a contribution to pay the nurses, medicines and equipment Injury Control Centre at Mulago Hospital This is a non-governmental organisation that is dedicated to injury prevention and reduction. The centre is located on the 5th floor of Mulago Hospital Casualty wing. The Rotary Club of Kampala in partnership with the Rotary Club of Arbutus, Canada have raised US$25,000 to help organisation reduce incidence and impact of injury through research, advocacy, design and evaluation of interventions, and the implementation of injury managemnet programmes. Rotary Youth IT and Micro-Enterprise Project The Rotary Club of Kampala, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Altadena, Califonia- District 5300, have initiated the Youth IT & Micro-Enterprise Project to address the problem of poverty amongst the youth in Uganda Sixty percent of the youth in Uganda are unemployed because they have no employable skills. Unemployment causes poverty, which in turn leads to undesirable enterpreneurship skills, they stand a better competitive advantage for the few jobs available in the job market. In addition, they can also use the same skills to creat their own micro-businesses. 400 youth have so far been trained at 11 different internet learning centres located in various secondary schools all over the country. Sun Ovens (Solar Cookers) The Club has applied for a matching grant from the Rotary Clubs of North America to promote sun ovens as an alternative to wood and charcoal as fuels for rural communities or living groups, such as schools, hospitals, etc. The Club has plans to promote sun ovens as a natural solution to the problem of deforestation. Child Advocacy and Unit Academy The Rotary Club of Kampala, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Middlesborough, are in the process of setting up a project to look after AIDS orphaned children in Makindye location of Kampala District. The Club is proud to be of part of this project because it assist children as member of the community who are truly in need.Two rural schools will also be assisted with scholastic materials, computers and furniture.Projec
